There are people who spend their entire lives chasing dreams they may never achieve, and then there are a rare few who seem to have been born with every blessing life could possibly offer- wealth, beauty, success, admiration..... everything simply falls into their lap as though destiny had already written their story long before they took their first breath. Sharvani Kapoor belonged to the second category. At just twenty-five years old, she had become someone millions admired, envied, and aspired to be, yet she carried herself with the confidence of someone who believed she had earned every bit of it.

The soft glow of her phone screen illuminated her spacious bedroom as she sat comfortably against the oversized headboard, her legs crossed beneath her. Her room looked less like a bedroom and more like something straight out of an interior design magazine. The walls were painted in warm ivory tones, decorated with abstract artwork collected from different countries. A massive walk-in wardrobe occupied one side of the room while floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the beautifully landscaped gardens of the Kapoor estate. Every little corner reflected luxury, yet for Sharvani, it had become so ordinary that she barely noticed it anymore.

Her fingers moved effortlessly across the screen as notification after notification continued to flood her phone. Instagram comments, sponsorship emails, collaboration requests, event invitations, interview offers, and hundreds of direct messages competed for her attention. A luxury skincare company wanted her as the face of their new campaign. A travel agency was willing to sponsor an international vacation if she documented it on her social media. Another clothing brand wanted an exclusive six-month partnership. The list simply refused to end.

A satisfied smile slowly spread across her face. Life had been generous to Sharvani Kapoor or perhaps life simply liked her more than most people.

Known to the internet as Vani, she had built a world that revolved around aesthetics, fashion, lifestyle, and travel. More than a million people followed her online, waiting eagerly for her next reel, her next outfit, or even something as simple as her morning coffee routine. One recommendation from her was enough to empty online stores within hours. Brands competed to work with her, magazines wanted her interviews, and companies were willing to spend lakhs just for a thirty-second mention on her profile.

Her success wasn't inherited, but her wealth was. However, the fame belonged entirely to her. Her phone vibrated once again with another collaboration request. Sharvani laughed to herself before clicking the notification. "Another one?"

She quickly skimmed through the email, approved a campaign, rejected another because she didn't like the product, and scheduled a meeting with her manager for the following week. It had become such a routine that she barely needed to think before making these decisions. Social media wasn't merely a hobby anymore. It had become a business, a career, and a part of her identity.

After replying to the last email, she placed her phone on the bed and stretched her arms above her head. Her neck cracked slightly as she let out a contented sigh. Today had been productive, tomorrow promised even more opportunities, and she finally had a free evening.

Not that her father would let it remain peaceful, the thought made her chuckle. She slipped into her fluffy slippers before making her way downstairs. The Kapoor mansion stood proudly in one of Mumbai's most expensive neighbourhoods. Imported marble covered the floors, crystal chandeliers hung from impossibly high ceilings, and elegant paintings decorated every hallway. Uniformed staff moved around silently, each person carrying out their responsibilities with practised efficiency. It was the sort of house that impressed every visitor, yet to Sharvani it was simply home.

As she descended the grand staircase, a few staff members greeted her with warm smiles. "Good evening, ma'am."

She smiled back. "Good evening."

Unlike many children born into wealth, Sharvani had never been arrogant toward the people working in her home. She remembered birthdays, asked about their families, and never hesitated to thank someone for the smallest gesture. It was one quality her father had quietly instilled in her from childhood. But she makes sure to treat them according to their nature.

She walked straight towards the study, already knowing where she would find her father. Rajesh Kapoor rarely missed his evening routine. The large wooden doors were slightly open. Inside, her father sat behind his desk wearing his reading glasses, carefully going through a stack of business files. His hair had begun turning grey years ago, and age had slowed his movements, but the authority in his presence remained unchanged. The moment he looked up and saw his daughter standing at the entrance, every trace of seriousness disappeared from his face, replaced by a smile.

There wasn't a single thing in the world Rajesh Kapoor treasured more than his daughter. She wasn't just his child; she was his entire family. Years ago, life had taken away the woman he loved most, leaving behind only memories and a little girl who looked exactly like her mother. Since then, every decision he made, every deal he signed, every sleepless night he endured had been for one purpose alone, to make sure Sharvani never lacked anything. He had succeeded, perhaps a little too well. "Vani," he called gently.

"Hmm?" she replied absent-mindedly, her eyes still fixed on the phone she had picked up again.

"You know how much I love you, don't you?"

The question made her stop walking. She slowly lowered her phone before dramatically rolling her eyes toward the ceiling. "Oh, God..."

Rajesh frowned immediately. "What?"

She walked closer before placing both her hands on her waist, tilting her head with an expression that perfectly conveyed here we go again. "Popsie..."

He narrowed his eyes. "What now?"

"Not again."

He pretended not to understand. "Not what again?"

Sharvani sighed dramatically. "I'm not getting married."

Rajesh Kapoor closed his eyes for a brief second. Definitely, she had guessed it before he had even begun. He turned his chair around as if offended, hoping she would at least try to convince him this time. Instead... "Popsie," she laughed, "seriously." she walked around the desk until she stood beside him. "I'm not ready for marriage," she paused "and neither is Ayan."

The smile vanished from Rajesh Kapoor's face so quickly that even Sharvani noticed. His jaw tightened, his fingers curled around the armrest. Slowly, he stood up and turned toward her. "You will never marry that man." His voice wasn't loud.

Sharvani lifted one eyebrow. "And who else am I supposed to marry except my boyfriend?" For a brief moment, Rajesh looked as though he wanted to reveal something. Countless emotions flickered through his eyes-fear, helplessness, guilt, and concern. The words reached his lips, but refused to come out. If only she knew...if only the truth didn't have the power to destroy everything.

Before he could gather the courage to speak, Sharvani laughed softly and waved her hand. "Relax, Popsie." She gently straightened his collar like a mischievous daughter trying to cheer up her father. "Marriage isn't my thing." Then, with a teasing grin, she added, "You can keep me with you forever."

Rajesh smiled faintly, though it never reached his eyes. As she walked toward the door, she glanced over her shoulder one last time. "And stop hating Ayan." The study fell silent after she disappeared.

Rajesh Kapoor remained standing exactly where he was, his gaze lingering on the doorway long after she had gone. The silence around him felt heavier than ever before. If only life allowed him to tell her the truth...

The atmosphere during dinner that night was unusually quiet.

The Kapoor mansion was never loud to begin with, but there was always something that filled the silence. Sometimes it was Sharvani's endless stories about work, sometimes it was Rajesh Kapoor complaining about her sleeping schedule, and occasionally it was both of them arguing over marriage and Ayan. However, tonight an unfamiliar stillness lingered around the dining table. Rajesh barely touched the food on his plate while Sharvani, completely unaware of the storm brewing inside her father, happily scrolled through her phone between bites.

Her manager had just sent her the engagement report for her latest campaign. The numbers were unbelievable, the reel had crossed eight million views in less than twenty-four hours, brands were already asking for similar collaborations, and her followers were demanding another travel vlog. Reading the comments made her smile unconsciously. She loved the fact that people enjoyed watching snippets of her life; it never felt like work to her. Recording videos, editing them late into the night, interacting with her audience......this was something she genuinely enjoyed. That was keeping her busy and entertained. "Dad."

Rajesh looked up from his untouched plate "Hmm?"

"I've decided something." She said while taking a bite of her food.

He instinctively straightened in his chair. "What is it?"

Sharvani casually picked up another piece of roti before speaking as if she were announcing the weather. "I'm going to Odisha."

The spoon slipped from Rajesh Kapoor's hand and hit the plate with a metallic sound. "What?"

She blinked innocently. "Odisha."

"I heard that. But... why?"

She smiled now her whole attention was on her father "Because I've never properly explored it. My followers have been asking for travel content, and honestly, I need a break. Every trip I've taken in the past few months has been because of brand collaborations. This time I just want to travel, film whatever I like, eat local food, explore villages, temples, beaches... everything."

Rajesh stared at her. "With whom?"

"Nobody."

"What do you mean nobody?"

"I'm going alone."

His expression changed immediately. "A solo trip?"

She nodded as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world. "Yes."

"No."

The answer came so quickly that Sharvani almost laughed. "Dad..."

"No, Vani."

She folded her arms. "Dad."

"I said no."

She leaned back in her chair dramatically. "You didn't even let me finish."

"I don't need to."

"Why?"

"Because you're not travelling alone."

She sighed loudly. "There we go again."

Rajesh finally placed his spoon aside and looked at her seriously. "If you want to travel, take your security team, driver. Take whoever you want."

"I don't want anyone."

"You are not going alone."

Sharvani pointed her finger towards him like a lawyer presenting evidence. "You know what's your biggest problem?"

Rajesh narrowed his eyes. "What?"

"You still think I'm twelve."

"No."

"You do."

"I don't."

"You absolutely do."

Rajesh couldn't help smiling despite himself. "Really?"

"Yes." She dramatically placed a hand on her chest. "This is why people say you're overprotective."

He looked around the empty dining room. "People?"

Sharvani smiled proudly. "Me. I am the only people you have."

A small laugh escaped Rajesh before he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Vani..."

"I'm serious."

"So am I." He leaned slightly forward. "Take security."

"No."

"At least two guards."

"No."

"They'll stay far away. They won't disturb you."

She shook her head stubbornly. "Dad, the whole point of a solo trip is that it's... solo."

"You don't understand."

"No, you don't understand."

Rajesh's face grew serious again. "You are recognised everywhere now, people know you and not everyone has good intentions."

She softened for a brief second before smiling again. "Dad... I'm twenty-five."

"I know."

"I know how to take care of myself."

"I still worry."

"And you'll always worry." She stood up from her chair before walking over to him. "So let's save both of us some time." Before he could react, she bent down and kissed his cheek. "I'll be absolutely fine, Popsie."

Rajesh looked at her for a long moment, his heart wanted to stop her but he couldn't. Instead, he simply nodded, a strange uneasiness refused to leave him. It wasn't something that he could explain.

The next morning arrived before either of them was ready. Sharvani's room looked as though a fashion store had exploded overnight. Clothes covered the bed, shoes were neatly arranged on the floor, makeup products occupied half the dressing table, and her suitcase lay open while she decided what to pack for a trip that would barely last a week.

Travel content meant outfit changes, outfit changes meant options and options meant overpacking. An hour later she finally zipped the suitcase shut with visible satisfaction. Perfect.

She changed into her airport outfit- a pair of loose blue baggy jeans, a fitted white crop top, clean white sneakers, and a beige baseball cap that partially covered her silky hair. Oversized sunglasses completed the look while a simple silver chain rested around her neck. She looked at herself in the mirror. "Not bad."

Before leaving the room, she held up her phone and recorded a quick airport transition video that she already knew would perform well online. By the time she reached the driveway, thousands of people had already watched her morning story. Ready to go, Odisha. ❤️✈️

Comments began pouring in almost instantly.

>Take us with you.

>Waiting for the vlogs.

>Queen is travelling again.

>Please try local food.

Sharvani smiled while reading them. Her followers had become more than just numbers on a screen; many of them had been supporting her for years. She recognised familiar usernames, replied to comments whenever possible, and genuinely appreciated the love they showered upon her every single day.

As expected, Rajesh Kapoor insisted on dropping her at the airport despite having an important business meeting later that morning. He spent the entire drive repeating the same instructions he had been giving her since she was old enough to travel.

"Be careful."

"Dad..."

"Answer your phone."

"Dad..."

"Don't trust strangers."

"Dad."

"Stay alert."

Sharvani laughed so hard that even the driver struggled not to smile. "I'm going for one week." Rajesh remained silent. "I'm not shifting permanently."

She finally wrapped her arms around him before entering the terminal. "I'll call you every day."

He hugged her back, perhaps a little longer than usual. "Take care of yourself."

"I always do." As she walked toward the security gate, Rajesh remained standing exactly where he was. He watched until his daughter disappeared into the crowd; only then did he turn away, yet the uneasiness inside him only grew stronger.

The flight landed in Odisha just after noon. The warm breeze that greeted Sharvani the moment she stepped outside instantly felt different from Mumbai's hurried atmosphere. Everything appeared calmer somehow. The roads were less busy, the air smelled fresher, and even the pace of life seemed slower.

She immediately took out her camera. "Hello, my beautiful people..." Within minutes she was recording airport clips, capturing roadside views from the cab, laughing at random observations, and giving little updates to her audience. To anyone watching from outside, it might have looked exhausting.

But to Sharvani... it felt like her daily life. She wasn't pretending for the camera, the camera had simply become part of her life. Her hotel stood in one of the busiest parts of the city. The grand lobby reflected luxury from every angle. Crystal lights hung elegantly above polished marble flooring while soft instrumental music floated through the air. The staff welcomed her warmly before escorting her to an executive suite on one of the highest floors.

The room exceeded even her expectations. A massive king-sized bed occupied the centre, elegant furniture surrounded the spacious living area, and a floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooked the beautiful city skyline. She immediately opened the curtains before placing both hands on her waist. "Okay... this is beautiful."

After unpacking, she spread brochures, maps, and handwritten notes across the bed. The itinerary looked exciting- ancient temples, hidden waterfalls, traditional villages, local markets, handicraft centres, street food, sunrise at the beach, sunset photography. She had enough ideas to keep both herself and her followers entertained for days.

After resting for a while, she headed downstairs for dinner......halfway through her meal, a hesitant voice interrupted her. "Excuse me..."

Sharvani looked up. A family of four stood a few feet away, looking both nervous and excited. "Are you... Vani?"

Her face immediately brightened. "I am."

The little girl hiding behind her mother gasped loudly. "I told you it was her."

Sharvani laughed before inviting them closer. Within minutes they were taking selfies together, talking about favourite videos, and laughing like old friends. The little girl clung to her hand while proudly telling everyone at the restaurant that she had met her favourite influencer. Before leaving, Sharvani bent down and hugged her tightly. "Study well, okay?"

The child nodded with teary eyes. Moments like these reminded Sharvani that her work meant something beyond numbers and brand deals. Sometimes... it simply made people smile.

Hours later, tired from travelling, she finally returned to her room, the suite was quiet and peaceful. She changed into comfortable clothes and sat on the bed while scrolling through the day's comments. Thousands of people were already excited about the Odisha vlog series.

The digital clock beside the bed displayed a little past ten when Sharvani finally returned to her suite. The day had been long, but in the best possible way. Travelling had always filled her with a strange sense of freedom, and today had reminded her why she loved it so much. There was something refreshing about stepping into a place where nobody knew your routine, where every road led to a new story and every corner held a new memory waiting to be created.

She kicked off her sneakers near the entrance before lazily stretching her arms above her head. Her suitcase still lay half-open beside the wardrobe, clothes spilling out carelessly because she had been too excited to unpack properly. Walking towards the large glass window, she pulled the curtains aside and admired the city lights twinkling beneath the dark sky. Odisha already felt different from every place she had travelled to before. It wasn't loud or impatient; it carried a quiet charm that made her feel strangely at peace.

Her phone buzzed continuously on the bedside table.

She smiled before picking it up. Hundreds of notifications had appeared within the last hour. The selfie she had posted with the little girl downstairs had already crossed hundreds of thousands of likes. The comments section overflowed with messages from people asking for daily travel vlogs, recommendations, and behind-the-scenes clips. Some followers had even begun suggesting hidden places around Odisha that weren't commonly shown on social media.

Sharvani genuinely enjoyed reading those comments, unlike many influencers who handed over everything to their managers, she still preferred interacting with her audience herself. She replied to a few comments, liked several fan edits, and even reposted one beautiful illustration someone had drawn of her airport look. It amazed her how strangers sitting miles away could make her smile with something as simple as a thoughtful message.

Her manager's text soon popped up on the screen.

Manager: The airport reel is already doing great. Keep posting stories tomorrow. Travel content is performing really well.

Sharvani smiled before typing back.

Vani: Don't worry. Tomorrow is going to be fun.

She locked her phone and placed it beside her pillow before heading towards the washroom.

Warm water washed away the exhaustion of the journey, leaving her feeling refreshed. She changed into an oversized white T-shirt and comfortable shorts before tying her hair into a loose bun. Looking at herself in the mirror, she laughed softly. "Influencer mode off."

She switched off most of the lights in the room, leaving only the warm bedside lamp glowing softly. The quietness of the suite felt comforting after an entire day spent around people. For the first time in weeks, she didn't have a schedule to follow or an event to attend. Tomorrow would begin a completely new adventure.

"This is going to be my best vlog series." Satisfied with all the plans, she posted one final story for the day. Goodnight, Odisha. See you tomorrow. ❤️

Within seconds, hearts and replies flooded her inbox again. She chuckled. "Do you people even sleep?"

After plugging her phone into the charger, she leaned back against the headboard and absentmindedly continued scrolling through reels. One funny video led to another, then another, until she completely lost track of time. Outside, the city had grown quieter, and even the sounds from the corridor had almost disappeared.

Somewhere beyond the walls, a lift opened. A few footsteps echoed faintly before fading into silence. Sharvani didn't pay attention to it as hotels always had people moving around at odd hours. She continued watching another travel vlog, mentally comparing it to the places she wanted to explore the next morning.

A few minutes later, she frowned. The room suddenly felt... different. Everything was exactly where it had been yet an uneasy feeling slowly settled in the pit of her stomach. She looked up from her phone, the suite remained silent while the air conditioner hummed softly in the background while the curtains moved ever so slightly because of the cool air flowing through the vents. She shook her head. "You're just tired."

Trying to ignore the strange feeling, she placed her phone aside and stood up to draw the curtains completely shut. The city lights disappeared behind the thick fabric, leaving only the warm glow of the bedside lamp illuminating the room. She walked towards the entrance to make sure the door had been locked properly before going to sleep but halfway there... she stopped.

Her brows knitted together, something wasn't right. The door, she distinctly remembered, locking it the moment she had entered the room. She always checked twice, it was a habit she had developed after years of travelling. Yet now... it wasn't completely closed- a narrow gap separated the door from the frame.

Sharvani stared at it for several long seconds, a strange chill travelled down her spine. Her heartbeat slowed for a moment before suddenly beginning to race. "Hello?" she called out cautiously.

There was no answer; it was completely silent. She swallowed nervously. "It's probably nothing." She muttered to feel courageous. Gathering whatever courage she could, she slowly walked towards the entrance, each step felt heavier than the last as the expensive wooden flooring creaked faintly beneath her feet. She stopped barely a few feet away from the partially open door, her fingers instinctively tightening around the edge of her T-shirt.

"Is someone there?"

Again... there was no response. She hesitated; every instinct told her to stay where she was. Taking a slow breath, she carefully reached towards the handle, just as her fingers were about to touch it...a shadow shifted on the other side.

Sharvani's eyes widened, the world around her seemed to freeze. And then...everything went dark.

Show your support

When I first began writing, I never planned to put a price on my chapters. But after giving it a lot of thought, I've decided to make some chapters paid. My promise to you is that I'll do my absolute best to make every paid chapter worth your time and support. (Please forgive me if somewhere you feel my chapters are not worth your money, and feel free to never spend money again. I still respect your decision.) The money I receive won't be for my personal use. Instead, I want to use it to help those who need it most- children I see near traffic signals, elderly people in need, or stray dogs who deserve food and care. I'll also try to share these moments on my Instagram so you can see where your support is going. I'm naturally socially awkward and not someone who's comfortable filming everything, so it may not always be easy, but I'll do my best to be as transparent as I can. Thank you for believing in my stories. If you choose to support me by unlocking a chapter, thank you.
